Care, dedication and handwork are what set apart the wines of this winery, which grows grapes in remarkable plots in almost inaccessible places such as A Trabe, Finca Notario and Finca Muradella.
Respect for the surroundings and protection of the environment are also hallmarks of Quinta da Muradella, which follows a philosophy rooted in the growers of old and uses only natural methods in its processes.
Its entire production has been certified organic since 2005. Its wines enjoy great prestige abroad, where Quinta da Muradella sells most of its production.
José Luis Mateo is a true vigneron: a man who, through experience, has come to understand every corner of his region's viticulture and knows exactly which winemaking approach suits each variety and vineyard. Since 1991 he has been working and recovering old vineyards on the steep slopes around Verín, in the south of Ourense. The climate around Verín is almost continental, with harsh summers and winters and a rugged landscape, with diverse soils ranging from granite (sábrego) to clay, slate and quartz, at altitudes of 250 to 800 metres above sea level. Here José Luis farms some 15 hectares organically, home to a multitude of varieties.
