Felton Road is a wine project in the mining town of Bannockburn, in the heart of Otago. It consists of a newly built winery on three levels for gravity-fed winemaking. The grapes are grown according to biodynamic principles, and winemaking involves minimal intervention. The result is complex wines with deep fruit.
Biodynamic farming is practised, with plant preparations and cover crops between the rows to support the natural balance of vine, terroir and biodiversity.
The vineyard covers 22 hectares. Owner Nigel Greening and Blair Walter keep earning praise for their wines, proving wrong those who believed the region was too cold for quality wine. The climate combines hot days, cool nights and long autumn days, perfect for fine Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
More than any other, Felton Road is the winery that has put Central Otago on the wine map.
