One of the country's oldest wineries, Te Mata Estate dates back to 1854, when the Chambers family, English immigrants, settled in Havelock North (on New Zealand's North Island) and began planting vines. Today the estate covers 240 hectares and is regarded as one of New Zealand's ten best wineries.
