History

On the northern slope of the mountain, at 650–780 metres above sea level, the winery's vineyards cover 18 hectares surrounded by hazelnut and olive trees.

Re-established by Giuseppe Russo in 2005 and dedicated to the memory of his father, Girolamo, the winery is a powerful expression of Giuseppe's wish to respect and preserve his family's traditional values while interpreting them in a new and personal way, introducing and developing new approaches to winemaking.

The vineyards and the "sciare"

To appreciate the morphological complexity of this landscape, consider that Etna formed more than half a million years ago. Each "sciara" (a word of Arabic origin), that is, each lava flow that cooled and solidified on the mountain's slopes, has been shaped and transformed by time and human activity, which makes Etna's contrade very diverse, just like the wines produced here.

San Lorenzo

On the outskirts of Randazzo, on the slopes of the volcano at 700–800 metres above sea level, this contrada owes its name to the cult of Saint Lawrence, brought to the area by an Aragonese nobleman.
This stretch of land has three distinct geological formations. The largest is very old, dating back at least 15,000 years (to the period when the Elliptical Crater formed).
Thanks to this unique terroir, the wine made here is austere and tenacious, like the volcano itself, tempered by fire and time.
It is a wine that makes its presence felt, at once opulent and delicate, with aromas of red fruit, herbal notes and dense, silky tannins. An elegant, complex wine that expresses not only the soil of Etna but the very breath of the volcano.
