The Dr. Loosen estate has been in the same family for more than 200 years. When Ernst took over in 1988, he realised he had some of Germany's top-rated vineyards, and set out to make the most of their potential. He severely restricts crop size, uses only organic fertiliser, insists on very strict fruit selection and uses gentle cellar practices with minimal handling.
At Germany's western edge, the steep, south-facing slopes of the Mosel Valley create the perfect climate for Riesling, giving the vines ideal sun exposure. The cool climate lets the grapes ripen slowly while keeping bright acidity.
