History

History is one of Damilano's great strengths: it is one of the historic wineries of Barolo, with traditions going back more than a hundred years.

The family business dates back to 1890, when Giuseppe Borgogno, great-grandfather of the current owners, began growing grapes and making wine from his vineyards in the commune of Barolo, the Langhe town that gave the wine its name, and a symbolic place in the history of world winemaking.

It was later, under Giacomo Damilano, the founder's son-in-law, that the winery took its current name. He drove the care of the vineyards and steadily improved the quality of the winemaking, turning it into a "jewel" that he proudly passed on to his grandsons, who have run the company since 1997.

Guido, Mario and Paolo Damilano have taken it to an international level, in both quality and image, without ever losing the identity of the territory. In this way the new generation has given fresh energy and momentum to the family business, championing above all the Langhe's main grape variety: Nebbiolo.

Cannubi
Cannubi is the company's flagship and is regarded as one of the few true jewels of the Barolo area and of the fine wine world.
Cannubi has a long history: traces of it can be found in old documents dating back to 1700. The oldest surviving bottle is kept in the town of Bra, in the archive of the Manzone family, and bears the inscription "Cannubi 1752". This precious evidence shows how highly prized this place name already was, even before Barolo wine existed.

Unique characteristics
The quality of the grapes from this hill comes from the particular make-up of its soil: it is the only spot in the whole Barolo production area where Sant'Agata fossil marls meet and mingle with Diano sandstone, soils from different geological eras.
