Ximénez-Spínola is the Jerez winery of the successors of Phelipe Antonio Zarzana Spínola, whose first documented export in notarial records dates from 1729, although the winery holds no manuscripts on its trading activity until 1736, nor on this particular varietal cultivation until 1752. Its circumstances make Ximénez-Spínola unique in the whole Jerez area, as no other winegrowing family has devoted itself, and continues to devote itself, exclusively to the Pedro Ximénez grape, earning recognition from the Spanish authorities through the award of the "Denominación Varietal Pedro Ximénez de Acreditación Propia". Its wines are made using techniques the family has developed itself, which have set it apart in recent years for being completely different from those covered by the D.O. Jerez-Xérès-Sherry.
Precisely because of these differences in winemaking and distilling, Ximénez-Spínola remains an independent family company, interested not in large volumes but in quality and the loyalty of its followers.
Accordingly, by unanimous decision of the Family Council, all production is limited and numbered, making every bottle a unique piece while guaranteeing the quality and excellence of its contents.
The family values its status as a "House of Growers", which still takes important decisions through the Family Council or the Tasting and Selection Committee. Although it does not wish to produce large volumes, it is very proud to satisfy its customers and to carry on its forebears' craft just as they would if they were here today. A family tradition devoted to winegrowing is not at odds with a desire to work with the best partners in every area of its winemaking and management. Yet some products could not exist without the soul and breath of a vision spanning many years, perhaps centuries.
Today, Ximénez-Spínola is in its ninth generation since the company was founded, working as its predecessors did, with eternal gratitude to those who started the soleras they could not finish, and laying the foundations themselves for the wines with which their children will keep making this name great.
